WOW! Hypnobirthing

Course Overview

Now that we are moving out of lockdown, we're happy to announce that in-person hypnobirthing courses are back on!

Given the ongoing background of the pandemic and the variations in venue requirements and individuals' levels of vulnerability, we have taken the decision, for now, to offer all our courses on a private basis, rather than to run groups. This means that you can book a private hypnobirthing course in your own home, your practitioner's home or online if you prefer.

The beauty of a private antenatal hypnobirthing course is that it's totally focused on you and your needs. Prior to your course we'll ask you (both of you) about your hopes, worries and individual situation so we can build a course tailored to you. As well as providing relevant, clear and detailed antenatal education, we also listen carefully to you and your birth partner's personal concerns. We work with you to help you find ways to reframe and overcome any obstacles. We are used to being adaptable and responsive and can think 'outside the box'. It's not always possible to change a situation or particular set of circumstances, so instead we might help you find ways of viewing it and responding to it differently, so you feel calmer and more in control. We aim for a practical and applicable blend of thinking, doing and being.

You might be wondering, "What makes you qualified to do all that? How do I know I can trust you?" Following 3 years’ professional training, Zana and Barbara hold level 5 university-validated qualifications specifically in antenatal education. Of course, we're also qualified hypnobirthing teachers (from an RCM accredited course) and between us have further qualifications and skills in midwifery, counselling and hypnotherapy. We carry appropriate professional insurance. We don't deliver someone else's set format or agenda; we have decades of experience of devising and adapting antenatal classes to suit the participants. Rest assured, at our antenatal classes and hypnobirthing courses you are in safe, capable hands.

We really want you to feel better about birth and feel skilled to deal with it!

Living up to our motto: "Linking mind and body"

Of course we want you to feel informed, so we do share plenty of theory and context with you, but, much more importantly, we want you to feel skilled to deal with labour, as well as to feel genuinely calm, confident and empowered for pregnancy, birth and beyond. Labour and birth are intensely emotional and physical experiences. You might say, "Ah, but knowledge is power!", but you can't 'think' your way through labour. Your birth experience is likely to be an immensely physical and emotional journey, so what will help you most is to learn and practise skills to help you manage physical and emotional challenges. Feeling informed is just one part of effective birth preparation. We want you, your baby and your partner to have the most positive, calm and confident experience possible, where you work together as your very own dream-team, whatever your circumstances on the day.

Bespoke courses - your choice

At the moment with the ongoing background of the pandemic we feel that the best option for all of us is to offer our courses on a private, bespoke basis. Our original hypnobirthing course for small groups was designed to fill two days. When we work privately with you and your birth partner, you can decide if you'd like to spend one or two days with us and we will design your course accordingly. The longer we have the more we can cover, but if you prefer just one day we will home in on the hypnobirthing, 'rapid relaxation', pain management and self-calming aspects of the course, all including the birth partner's role, and always with your personal situation, needs and preferences in mind. You can also choose an initial 1-day course and follow up a few weeks later with an additional short session to top up, if you feel the need.

We're still here for you after your course!

Once you've attended your tailored hypnobirthing course, for best results we recommend that you keep practising and building on all that you learn as your baby's birth approaches. To help you, you will receive our exclusive audio downloads to listen to at home (with the familiar voice of your course leader rather than a stranger), course notes, information sheets and a list of things you can prepare and practise. Everything is designed to keep you on track to feel calmer, more confident, informed and in control.

If you wish, you can choose to book an additional top-up or reminder session, perhaps two to four weeks after your initial course. You can use a top-up session to check that you're still on track, to help out if you're having an emotional "wobble" (quite common as the due date approaches, even with excellent birth preparation!), to give your confidence a boost, increase your sense of empowerment, to reiterate what you know and maybe even to extend your learning a little as new questions arise or if medical recommendations change and your pathway to birth is different from expected. We're also available at the end of an email if you have quick questions or if you need any additional information or support.

Are you ready to start feeling better about birth?

We welcome clients from all over Southampton, Salisbury, Winchester, Romsey, the New Forest, Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire - and beyond! You're welcome if you are planning to give birth at home, at a birth centre or in hospital, whether you're planning a water birth, a caesarean, or if you're hoping to use medical pain relief. You're also welcome if you have additional medical needs as we'll help you find and focus on what you 'can' rather than what you 'can't'.

We have plenty of experience of working with people who feel scared of birth. If you suffer from tokophobia it may be appropriate to build a bespoke package of care that could also include counselling and referral to other professionals if appropriate.

If you have questions or are still not too sure if WOW! Hypnobirthing is for you, please contact us so we can help you decide. We promise we won't be pushy.
